Mac's First Weeks

I finally got my Blue puppy I have been waiting seven years for.

His name is Mac (short for MacKenzie).

Found him on the internet after looking and looking.  With a quick trip up to Fort Wayne, IN with my roadie puppy pal, Sue Troglin, I brought him home.

Talk about starting the year off right, I think now that he is going to be a great dog for me.

He was 5 months old and had grown up around lots of his relatives, cousin, uncles, great great grandparents, his mom and his big sister.

His breeder at Klassical Shelties told me he was going to stay small.  OH, yeah, not only the right color, but also the right sex and he was going to be small.  At five months he measured right at 12 ins. tall at the shoulder.  His registered name had already been picked out.  He would be known in show catalogs and registration papers as Klassicals It's About Time.

Pictured below are his parents:

Fossy the Mother

Mac looks a lot like his sire as he is also a bi blue which basically means a blue merle dog with white markings.  His dam, a tri color female, is basically and black and white dog with tan markings.  She carried a gene for no tan and therefore with the sire having no tan, passed this on to Mac which in turn makes him a bi colored dog.

Mac's grandsires are two very well known Champions in the Shetland Sheepdog field.  They are Gr. Champion Sea Haven Etched in Silver (Sketch) and Champion Integra Indelible Ink of Merridon (Quill).  Sketch is a bi blue as well and Quill is a tri color like Mac's dam.  Here are pictures of those two dogs:

So there is a bit about my new boy's ancestors.  Now here are some pictures of him as a baby and pictures of his sister and brothers.

One Day Old        Four Weeks Old       Six Weeks Old      Eight Weeks Old

Although there were six in the litter, one was still born and another of the bi blacks passed away after just a few days.  Four were left to carry on their parents genes.

The last picture of Mac at 8 weeks was the one that was in the ad and I fell in love with that fuzzy face immediately.  I contacted his breeder and the rest is history.  I was sucked in right away.

Although the picture in the ad was of him at 8 weeks, I ended up getting him at 5 months.  Here are some pictures of him now at 25 weeks of age.

And finally a video of him after him being here for two weeks and having only had five lessons.

UPDATE:

Mac is now 2.5 yrs old.  He has matured into a lovely boy with loads of personality.

Although he hates going to dog shows and dog classes, I did get him trained to be a better dog.  He will never be the obedience dog I want due to his aversion to dog outings and distrust of strangers.  He is not a shy dog as once people have been here for a bit he comes right up to them and accepts them just fine.  He just does not like going out and about.

Sometimes we just have to accept them as they are and go on.  One day maybe I will have one of his sons to carry on the dog showing.  Meanwhile here are new pics of the gorgeous boy.
