We started dog class at Indy K-9 Kollege on Aug. 23rd., 2008.We did not need the instruction, but we certainly needed the exposure to other dogs and a new enviornment. It was a wonderful experience and we had a lot of fun with the other classmates of which there were nine. Of course we were ahead of everyone with what we could do. But I was seeing he needed to have a lot of treats to do what I wanted him to do. I knew we needed to start phasing them out if we were to succeed in the show ring.

He was a little noise shy which was a bit of a concern. So I knew we needed to work on that. The building had a bit of an echo in it and dogs barking loudly seemed to scare him somewhat.

We still were going every Tuesday to my classes at Top Dog Obedience School which was old news for him so I knew exposure was what he needed the most.

Although we worked really hard so we could get that first first placing, we ended up with third place. Rather Trip got first, I, however, screwed him up into taking a third placing.

He did so well on the first part of our showing. He heeled and sat just perfectly. His stand was nearly perfect as he did move a couple of paws. His recall was flawless with a decent swing finish.

On the long sit we waited patiently for the command to leave your dog that took forever so I handed him a treat for being such a very good attentive kid and that was the end of his great job. I caused him to screw up his sit stay. He dropped the treat as the command to leave your dogs was issued. I had to keep him from laying down so I scooped up the treat myself and even though he was looking for it, I left him in a half sit. Naturally he went down right off looking for the treat and I had to re sit him. We got a zero.

The scoring was close, within two points, so even with third we would have smoked them by several points if he had not layed down on the sit. His down and stay was perfect even with another student creeping up on him slowly. The dog kept popping up and the owner would just correct him in front of her backing closer and closer to Trip. He stayed although at the end even though the other dog was nearly on top of him.

What a good boy he was! And even though they did not think he was good enough to receive first I know he was a first place kid.

Can't wait for the first match score!

Geordi Graduates Dog School

Jan. 9th, 2010 was the date of Geordi's graduation from dog class.  He was 7 months old on that very day and did  not do very well in his preformance but ended up with that coveted blue ribbon.

It helped with it being just after the holidays cause almost everybody had opted to change into another class or drop out completely.  We got pictures and video for the website and even got a bit of Geordi's brother, Trip, working as well.

Geordi went trough a spell of not wanting to sit while stopping on heeling and lagging very badly.  We decided it was just a phase he was going through and I am hoping it will pass with age and experience.

What got him his first place was the fact he stayed on the sit and the down stays perfectly.  He was very excited when he saw Trip working out on the floor and wanted to go out and do more, but he had had his time to shine and now it is on to bigger and better things.

He now is going to practice for his CGC testing later on this spring.

Check out his performance on this You Tube.
